Up in the burbs of Chicago it has been above freezing all week, that in its self is something to celebrate! It really starts to make you want to get outside and enjoy spring. Where we live there are several fun, child friendly activities that you can get out and do, and learn a little at the same time. I'm sure with a little googling you can find some in your area too.
One of our yearly destinations is Pioneer Farm in Hampshire, Illinois. Pioneer farm is a small, family run operation that allows our city kids a little taste of country living. Every spring the owners of Pioneer Farm allow you to hold and pet a baby lamb. This year they also have a llama, chicks, chickens, rabbits, piglets, goats, and the usual sheep sheering demonstration. There are also plenty of friendly kitties, always available to pet. Usually, there are also some coloring pages and home grown popcorn to enjoy.
The cost to hold a lamb is $5 per person or $11 for a family. Personally, I think it is a steal. Don't forget your camera and plan for a good hour to enjoy all the animals.
The owners have activities and produce for sale most of the year so please check out their website at Enjoy Pioneer Farm.
